HOUSE DFL DELIVERS FOR MINNESOTA

Nearly two years ago, House DFLers offered their Stick-to-the-Basics agenda to Minnesotans.  It was a pledge to take our state in a new direction and focus on the bread and butter issues affecting families across our state.  As the 2008 legislative session comes to a close, we can point to remarkable progress on each of our agenda items. 

• Health Care:  Nation-leading reform plus expanded coverage to more than 112,000 Minnesotans

• Excellent Education: $850M for our schools, special ed funding & improved accountability

• Cut Property Taxes:  Direct property tax relief, local government aid & levy limits

• Lower Tuition:  The era of double digit tuition increases came to an end

• Fund Habitat:  A constitutional amendment to fund the outdoors, clean water and the arts

Our agenda did not stop there. 

• Republicans joined the DFL to pass a 10-year comprehensive transportation plan.

• We kept the focus on jobs, creating thousands of new opportunities for out-of-work Minnesotans.

• We increased the COLA for nursing homes by 2%

• The Central Corridor light rail line will connect Minneapolis and St. Paul.

• We created the first state park in 40 years

And, we did it all in the face of a billion dollar state budget deficit.
